As we take stock of 2010 and look ahead I am sure we have all had our fair share of joy and sadness. As someone who has worked in Cambodia for a significant period of time, I was saddened by the tragic events of the water festival and how many families were affected by death and injury. It is so easy to read or watch tragic events unfold, but too often these days such events really are far too close to home for comfort.
Without meaning to materialise such sadness, whilst we cannot always prevent such tragedies occurring we can ensure we are adequately protected financially in the event we are caught up in such circumstances. Financially many of those injured were not able to have insurance in place. Families dependent on a bread winner who was injured or even killed will have to find another means of survival. In terms of such stress and sadness it is clearly preferable for loved ones to not have the added burdens financial ‘stress’ can add and it really is a blessing in disguise when we ensure we are sufficiently protected against these eventualities.
I implore those of us who have the means to protect our families, to do so immediately. Don’t wait for an event to cause you to regret your lack of cover, instead get in touch with someone and ensure you have the best medical insurance and, if required, life insurance that you can afford. One thing’s for certain, if one day you need to make a claim you will be very grateful for the cover you put in place. Insurance is never something we want to buy but it is a necessity to ensure we (and our families) are adequately protected in the event of the unforeseen happening.
I wish you all a wonderful 2011. May all your wishes come true and may you never need to claim on any of those personal insurances, for your sake and not the profitability of the insurance companies.
